Amar Singh is to appear free of cost in this movie which will have Vinoo Mohan and Bala as the heroes. Amar Singh had earlier been in cinema in a small role in a Dev Anand film.

Do you remember Sathyan Anthikkad's Varavelppu? One of the most satirical movies films ever to have made in Mollywood, which narrated the fate of NRI's who decide to start any fresh endeavor in the state. The movie is often named and discussed whenever such a discussion on NRI endeavors are on. Mohanlal, in the movie, was thrown into mayhem following his decision to buy a route bus and run it in his village lanes.

Again there was “Ee Parakkum Thalika” from Dileep which also had a similar story-line about a bus owner and a bus in decrepitude. Both there films created worthy hits for their lead stars.

Going by the previous experiences of these two hits, Jayaram is also preparing himself to be in the role of a private bus owner. He will be in the character for the new movie titled as 'Kudumbashree Travels', which is in its final stages of pre production. The movie will be directed by debutant Kiran.

Meanwhile, Jayaram's latest movie 'Makeup Man', directed by Shafi is getting ready in the sets at Ernakulam.

Bollywood's evergreen actor Dev Anand was on Friday conferred the Phalke Ratna award in Mumbai while iconic villain Pran was honoured with the Phalke Icon and Legendary Cine Versatile Cine Star award.

The honours were given away on the 141st birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke, considered the father of Indian movies.

"Whenever I close my eyes and try to recollect, I see all the legends of Bollywood those who have contributed immensely to Indian cinema. I salute them for all their efforts," Dev Anand, known for giving hits like Guide, Jewel Thief and Hare Rama Hare Krishna, told reporters after receiving the honour.

Pran, who came in a wheelchair, too poured his heart out. "I feel extremely honoured to receive this highly esteemed award. I thank the industry for showering their love and support," said Pran, who is still remembered for his roles in Madhumati and Ram Aur Shyam.

Hindi cinema's highest grosser 3 Idiots, too, won two awards.

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra was awarded the Phalke Memorial Commercial Film 2009 award for 3 Idiots, while superstar Aamir Khan was conferred with the Phalke Memorial Performance award for the same. But neither of them were present to collect the honour.

Held at the Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle in Mumbai, the awards were handed over by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal. As many as 59 awards were given to actors, technicians and other film industry members by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy.

Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar was given the Phalke Golden Era Singer award; veteran actor Chandrashekar was honoured with the Phalke Golden Era award and comedian Jagdeep received the Phalke Legendary actor award for his contribution to comedy as an actor.

Veteran actor-filmmaker Manoj Kumar was also present at the event.

Fardeen Khan is generous - and John Abraham can vouch for that.

John was keen to do Suriya's role in the Hindi remake of Gautham Menon's 2003 Tamil blockbuster Kaakha Kaakha, about a cop on a vendetta trail. But the film's Hindi remake rights were with Fardeen.

Filmmaker Vipul Shah too saw Kaakha Kaakha and agreed to produce it for director Nishikant Kamat with John in the lead. Shah personally approached Fardeen and a deal was stuck without much delay or ado.

"Fardeen was gracious, supportive and generous. I didn't have to persuade him at all. When he saw how keen we were to re-make Kaakha Kaakha in Hindi, he gave over the remake rights to us without hesitation," Shah said.

"I don't see why we can't be more generous in this industry. When Ajay Devgn asked me to give over my title All The Best, I happily did so. It was meant to be the original title of my Aankhen. I didn't need it because at that time English titles were taboo," said Shah.

Did Fardeen ask to be signed as the lead of Kaakha Kaakha in Hindi?

"Fardeen didn't even suggest I sign him for the remake. It would've caused embarrassment for both of us if he had. I don't think we should ever mix business with pleasure. I'd love to work with Fardeen when I've the right project for him. But not be coerced emotionally into signing him," said Shah.

Though Shah is not divulging the amount that he paid Fardeen to acquire the remake rights, it is reliably learnt the amount was Rs 6 million.

"I gave Fardeen exactly the amount that he had paid for the remake rights of Kaakha Kaakha. He didn't expect anything more," he said.

Now Kamath is busy rewriting Kaakha Kaakha for a pan-India audience. Though the original Tamil film was shot only in India, the remake will be shot in many countries abroad.

John's action sequences will be better than Suriya's in the original.

As for Asin signing the role opposite John, Shah clarifies: "Genelia d'Souza was never considered. I don't know why it was written so. Asin was Nishi [Nishikant]'s choice. He thought she was perfect for the part. The choice had nothing to do with my comfort level with her during the making of London Dreams.

"I don't care how many projects she turned down recently or that she was sitting home for eight months. I'm glad she's doing our film. The film is an acid test for Nishi. So far he has been identified with strong offbeat films. Kaakha Kaakha is his first full-fledged commercial film. And John-Asin is a fresh pair. Always exciting for audiences."

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s son Sanjay who made an impressive debut in the song sequence Naan Adichaa Thangamatte… in Vettaikaran is said to be once again doing a film with his dad.

The grapevine has it that Sanjay is making a cameo appearance as the son of the character played by Vijay in the climax of his under production Siddique directed Kavalkaran.

The shooting of the film is taking place in Kumbakonam.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on Monday hit out at reports that she and her husband Raj Kundra are not the co-owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals.

She expressed her resentment on microblogging site Twitter, tweeting: "Woke up and heard on TV that we are not co-owners of RR! Only want to say there is NO DOUBT that RAJ is a stake holder and I am the Brand ambassador, This IS THE TRUTH!

According to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar, Shilpa and Raj's names do not even figure in the IPL team's shareholding papers. The brewing IPL controversy has put Shilpa's team under the scanner for allegedly being partly owned by Lalit Modi, who was suspended as BCCI vice president and IPL commissioner late on Sunday night.

Senior actor Mukesh has decided not to do any more roles as father characters, after his latest movie 'Mummy And Me'. The actor seems to have been disappointed by the promotional and previews of the movie which site it as an emotional story of the intense relationship between a mother and her daughter.

The presence of a caring father, who is an integral part of the plot seems to have been left out by the makers who gave more importance to characters played by Urvashi and Archana Kavi.

Directed by Jithu Joseph, the movie is expected to be in theatres by the first week of May. It is only by then that we can access whether the character played by Mukesh is such a highlight of the flick.

Like every other film industry in India, Mollywood too witnessed the landing of many star-sons, of which majority couldn't prove good as their star fathers. The big list of such entries include Shanavas, Saikumar, Meghanathan, Jishnu, Fahad Fazil and Saji Soman. Mollwyood being a peculiar case, the very few who could find a good name and space for themselves include a very few, the latest being Saikumar, Prithviraj and Indrajith.

Superstar Mohanlal's son Pranav had been in a passing shot in the movie 'Sagar Alias Jackey', which gives a hint that the star son will land up in Mollwyood cinema, in a couple of years. Anyhow, what we are on is about the buzz around Megastar Mammootty's son ‘Dulquar Salman’ who is all set to be in movies, in a short while. As per the Tamil director Lingusamy who is a close friend to Mammootty, the megastar has already demanded him to cast his son in his first Malayalam film. Mammootty seems to have agreed Lingusamy that if needed, he will come-up in a guest role to support his son, in this new movie.

It is not yet clear when will Lingusamy, who is presently busy around his Tamil projects, find time to start off his first Mollywood movie. And if it happens in the near future, we may soon witness Dulquar Salman as a star material, probably rechristened with a more popular name.

The Golmaal 3 team is here! All cool and happy! Looks like they are just enjoying a fun shooting. Along with the filmmaker Rohit Shetty are Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade Kunal Khemu and the sizzling babe Kareena Kapoor. Like its earlier versions, Golmaal 3 will also be releasing in Diwali month.

Currently the shooting is happening in Goa and our birdies say that it is more than just work and is play time mostly. Going by the cast’s looks, the actors appear all casual and fresh which assures us that this time their golmaal will be quite hatke and mazedaar. Leave alone the appearance, it is heard that the team have invented new words which are actually modifications of gaalis (read expletives).

Birdies further revealed that they are not offensive and they just sound like some existing and popular gaalis. Some of the bad words in the film are said to include Bhenchik, madar launde and Chuziye! Not just in the film, heard that the stars are also using the words in their normal chitchat these days.

Also joining in the film’s new version are Mithun Chakraborthy, Ratna Pathak and Johnny Lever.

We are sure this Diwali we can here a loud comedy dhamaka!

Reemma had to reportedly get at least 30 kisses from Rajvir Singh, her co-star in her next Bollywood venture ‘Society’, as the newcomer was apparently a bit tensed to kiss the actress in front of the entire crew of the film for a particular scene.

Says the actress, “I don’t know the exact number of retakes, but we had to repeat the act again and again. And I would like to clarify that it was not an intimate scene because it was just a peck on the cheek.”

Reemma, who says she is not comfortable acting in kissing scenes and wearing bikinis, however adds she is aware such scenes are not a big deal anymore. “But I would have to give it some thought before doing it,” she says.

On ‘Society’, she says, “I play a journalist and it is a bubbly role. Society is a feel good film with a serious message. I understood the pressures faced by reporters every day while working for the movie. The profession requires lot of determination and dedication.”

The more serious actors in Malayalam had been experimenting with their getups, whenever they are in different characters. Now taking a cue from the seniors, younger actors are also trying to mould their appearances to suit the characters on screen. The actor, about whom we are talking about, is Jayasuriya who had already shown the guts to be the comedian, villain and the hero in different films, coming out in the same time.

Jayasuriya is appearing in four getups for the new movie ‘Nallavan’, which has just completed its shoot. The actor will be appearing as a youth of age 20, 25 and 35 in this movie. For each age-group, Jayasuriya has gone for a different look and hairdo. He has even worn a look with spring hairs and one with clean shaven head. Jayasuriya will be donning the character named 'Kocherukkan' living in a Tamil village, who is forced to go behind bars for reasons that were unknown to him.

“Mollywood viewers always enjoy films, giving a very critical look on every aspect. So to keep them engaged and interested, we will have to go for changes ranging for the looks to the narratives. And when I got a very solid promising plot in ‘Nallavan’, I thought I must give hundred percent to the film”, says Jayasuriya about his different looks in the movie.

‘Nallavan’ directed by popular TV name Aji John, has already completed its shoot and is in post production stages. The movie will grace the theatres by the mid of May as a summer release.

The prolific Priyadarshan has had more than his share of title problems with his new Ajay Devgn-Akshaye Khanna-Bipasha Basu starrer.

A hard-hitting film about love across caste barriers and honour killing set in Bihar, Priyan wanted to call it Ishqana. But Ishqiya came along and Priyan chose Garam Hawa.

But now that title too had to be hastily abandoned and Priyan has called his film Aakrosh. Explains an exhausted Priyadarshan: "We wanted to call it Garam Hawa as homage to M.S. Sathyu's classic film of that name. But then Mr Sathyu got very upset. We received a letter from him questioning our right to use his title. We immediately abandoned Garam Hawa. In order to use Aakrosh as the title, we got the original Aakrosh's director Govind Nihalani's permission. He was very generous about it."

"I need a break. I've four films this year. Aakrosh and Khatta Meetha are almost complete. Then I'm going into a film about the loves and lusts of the youth for which I want to cast newcomers along with Prateik Babbar. I'm starting this film in July. Finally, I want to make my realistic no-frills film on AIDS at the end of this year with Aamir Khan in the lead. I'll go to him only when my script is ready."

Priyan says he needs a star like Aamir to have a large receptive audience for the AIDS film. "I'm more successfully known for my comedies in the North. However, even if Aamir declines, I'll still go ahead with the AIDS film."

Bollywood actor Aarya Babbar, who is currently shooting for Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan, was so excited on the first day of shoot that he performed an entire scene without even any instruction from the director.

Aarya had a scene with 40 villagers, but he was so excited to be shooting with Khan that he started performing even before she could say action.

"I was very excited to give my first shot for Farah. My scene went off great and everyone clapped and I had a sigh of relief that it was a good start... then I saw Farah walking towards me and she said 'I didn't even say action, sweetheart!'

"In my excitement, I didn't even realise if Farah said action or not. I was so embarrassed," said the actor.

Aarya has been part of films such as Guru and Jail, among others.

The big question being asked in film circles is whether Prithviraj’s Amal Neerad directed Anwar about “Love Jihad”?

Love Jihad, was widely reported in coastal Kerala and Karnataka where young handsome Muslim boys reportedly targeted college girls belonging to non-Muslim communities for conversion to Islam by feigning love.

Last year the matter created a furore in Kerala after various “investigative reports” in the media highlighted it. Finally the Kerala High Court had to intervene and ask the state police and Union Home Ministry to probe the matter.

The buzz is that the thread of Amal’s Anwar is based on “Love Jihad” with Prithviraj playing a Muslim youth Anwar who lures Mamta a non-Muslim and converts her and later makes her join his terrorist outfit.

Prakashraj will play a deadly cop Stalin who heads the anti-terrorist squad who is on a mission to uncover the “Love Jihad” operations of terrorists. The others in the cast are Lal, Saikumar, Geetha and a few other Pathan looking villains from Bollywood.

The shooting of Anwar started last week in Kochi. Prithviraj himself has told a Malayalam magazine that Amal has discussed everything about the film and it would be the director’s best film till date that will tackle a social issue.

During the first schedule of the film, Prithviraj got injured while doing some deadly action scenes

Rambha, who had recently got engaged to Indiran, a NRI businessman from Canada, will now tie the knot on April 8 at the Tirupathi temple.

It would be a close door wedding ceremony for relatives and close friends of the couple.

There are no media invites and photos of the wedding will be supplied by the couple to the media, to avoid over crowding of media photographers and video teams during the wedding.

Later a very big reception would be held in Chennai for friends, industry people and media on April 11. The reception ould be a grand affair.

The big budget Joshy directed multi-starrer Christian Brothers featuring Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Sarath Kumar, Dileep, Kavya Madhavan and Lakshmi Rai has postponed it’s release.

A song has to be picturised on Mohanlal and Lakshmi Rai in Scotland, and the best time to picturise the song is May, when summer begins and ice melts in those parts of the world. A few more combination scenes of the main artists have to be shot hence the delay.

2. May 7- Oru Naal Varum. Mohanlal, Sreenivasan, Sameera. Dir: Rajiv Kumar.

Megastar Mammootty has been having a torrid time this year after the colossal failure of Drona and Thilakan’s wild accusations against him.

Mammootty the cool guy that he is, did not get into a slanging match with Thilakan, though the veteran actor tried to needle him unnecessarily. Now leaving all that behind, Mammootty is going to take a one month break, where he will just chill out. He wants to keep his holiday plans under the wrap.

The star is pinning a lot of hope on his two summer releases. B Unnikrishnan directed Pramani will release first on March 26. The film is said to have shaped out well and after a long time you can see Mammootty doing a role with negative shades.

Five weeks later his multi starrer Pokkiri Raja is scheduled for release on April 30. It is a mass action film with Prithviraj and Shriya doing the supporting roles. Both these films are sure to work big time at the box-office.

After 11 years, Mohanlal has revived his home banner Pranavam Arts. Some of the best movies ever made in Malayalam like- His Highness Abdullah, Bharatham, Kamaladalam, Vanaprastham, were made under this banner.

Pranavam Arts and a Mumbai based corporate will jointly produce Major Ravi directed Kandahar. Suresh Balaji, brother-in-law of Mohanlal will look after the production. Suresh has been doing outsourcing works for Mumbai producers making Tamil films and is a professional production man.

Mohanlal is clearly going for a total restructuring of his priorities in production. It also clearly means that Aashirwad Cinemas of Antony Perumbavoor will be put in the backburner. Will the star distance himself from Antony his right hand man for many years, remains to be seen?

Meanwhile the star is going all out to make Kandahar happen in the next six months. Major Ravi is doing research and also trying to get permissions to shoot the film in high security areas. Amitabh Bachchan has given dates for the film towards the end of the year.

Now it is almost certain that Tamil superstar Suriya will not be a part of the film. He has called up Mohanlal and has cited “lack of dates” as reason for not doing the film. The producers are now on the lookout for a Tamil action hero to step in as Suriya’s replacement.

Mammootty has a new deadly new look in debutant Vysakh’s Pokkiri Raja!

For the first time the actor is spotting a handlebar walrus moustache known in local lingo as “Pandi Kapada Meesa”.

The Walrus moustache worn by Kamal Hassan in Thevar Magan became famous all over Tamil Nadu at that time, and even now top actors love wearing it.

Take a look at Tamil actor Ajith’s latest film Aasal and Suriya’s yet to be released Singam. So can Mammootty be far behind?

In Tamil Nadu this type of moustache indicates a macho tough look. In the film Pokkiri Raja Mammootty’s plays Raja son of a disciplined school master, who ran away from home and becomes a powerful local dada in Madurai.

His younger brother Surya played Prithviraj too follows him and becomes another dada!
