The very versatile & spontaneous actress Kajol is all set to be honored with 'Karmaveer Puraskar' award on the 26th of November in New Delhi.The 'Karmaveer Puraskar' is a national award for Social Justice & Citizen Action being commissioned to recognize individuals who have been pivotal for leading change beyond their business as usual by being committed on individual levels to work on social issues. The awards are given to individuals from various sectors for their contribution to promote social justice and action.

The award is instituted by ICONGO – A confederation of NGOs and the Khemka Foundation with partners like TISS, BCCI, NASSCOM FOUNDATION, Outlook, Business World, etc.

Apart from being an acclaimed actress, Kajol has always been known for her social work. Kajol is also the appointed goodwill ambassador and patron of the UK based Loomba Trust which is a charity devoted to educating widow's children, particularly in India. Cherie Blair, wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair is President of the Loomba Trust. Kajol also works with an NGO in education called 'Shiksha.'"I believe that Social commitment is as important as our professional and personal commitment. It is indeed an honour to have been selected for this award. I will keep doing my bit & giving back to society the best in my capacity", affirms Kajol.

It is now the season of Malayalam movie directors making the transition to Kollywood. The likes of Lal Jose, Vinayan, Renjith and Shaji Kailas, among others, are directing movies in Tamil. Jose is directing 'Mazhai Varappogirathu' with newcomers playing the lead roles and the film is about the travails that arise because of water scarcity.'Director Vinayan is currently directing 'Naalai Namathey' featuring new faces in the lead roles', sources close to the director said. Director Renjith is all set to launch a Tamil film featuring Prithiviraj and Karthika. Meanwhile, director Shaji Kailas has almost finished the Tamil remake of the Malayalam murder mystery 'Chintamani Kola Case' titled 'Ellammey Avan Seyal' in Tamil. Director Siddhique had made 'Sadhu Miranda' and is tipped to direct Vijay's next film. Many observers feel that the Tamil film industry is opening its gates to new and fresh talent. The success of off-beat movies like 'Chennai 600028' and 'Subramaniapuram' has emboldened the Malayalam film makers to try their luck here.
After actress Devayani's brother Nakul, it is the turn of actress Sangeetha's brother Primal to play the hero in a Tamil movie. Primal will play the lead role in film titled 'Odipolama'. The film will be made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. . Kanmani has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues besides directing it. The rest of the cast includes Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Mahadevan, Suman Shetty, Thambi Ramiah, Sudha and 'Sankarabharanam' - fame Rajalakshmi. Sandhya plays the heroine. She is currently acting in 'Manjal Veyyil' along with Prasanna. The other film she is acting in is 'Mahesh, Saranya, Matrum Palar' with Shakthi. Plans are on to shoot the song sequences of 'Odipolaama' in the famous Pattaaya Beach and Phuket beach in Thailand. Produced by V Barani, the movie has music by D Imman and lyrics by Na Muthukumar, Thabu Shankar and Snehan.

Super star Mohanlal has been selected for the year's Panambilly Prathibha puraskaram, initiated by the cultural wing of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Mohanlal, was selected for the overall contribution to Malayalam cinema over the years, by the jury headed by George Onakkur. The award carries a citation and a purse of Rs 50,000. The award will be given away on the 26th of this month by the Union Defense Minister A K Antony in a function organized by the KPCC at the Karthika Thirunaal Theatre.
