After Bachna Ae Haseeno three big directors are trying to cast real life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone together, but the pair is reluctant. "We decided to be open about our relationship and lived to regret it because the more open we were the more our honesty was misconstrued. Our right to privacy was completely disregarded. So we've decided to be less public about our relationship. And we don't need to do films together to prove anything," Deepika said. Ranbir debuted with Saawariya and Deepika forayed into films with Om Shanti Om last year. Bachna Ae Haseenowas the second film for both. The directors who have offered them films together include Anees Bazmi, who is taking a break from Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif after Welcomeand Singh Is Kinng, David Dhawan and Rajkumar Santoshi. Santoshi is already doing a film with Ranbir. It is titled Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani and Katrina is playing the female lead in it. But Ranbir and Deepika are not showing any interest in doing films together after seeing what happened to Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur in all their films until their break-up. The two were seen together in films like Fidaand 36 China Town before their break-up, but both the films bombed. However their Jab We Met, which came after the two separated, was a huge success. Recently Kareena featured with her current boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in "Tashan" and that bombed too. "They've definitely been offered films by Bazmi, Dhawan and Santoshi and are considering taking up at least one of these. But Ranbir-Deepika are in no hurry to sign films together. Not after seeing what happened to Kareena and Shahid in all their films until their break-up and recently to Kareena and Saif Ali Khan in Tashan," said a source. "Ranbir-Deepika know the public gets satiated reading about real-life couples and seeing them constantly at events on television. The novelty factor is over. Deepika would rather be seen with Saif in Imtiaz Ali's film and Ranbir with Katrina and Konkona SenSharma in his forthcoming films rather than come together on screen repeatedly to entertain each other and bore the audience," added the source. At the moment all the three major offers for Ranbir-Deepika are on hold. "They might finally take up one of the offers. As for the much talked-about film by Ranbir's childhood friend Vicky Singh, that has three leading ladies in it and Deepika might or might not be one of them. And that project won't be shot until 2010. In fact, Ranbir hasn't even signed it as yet," a source said.
Shankar's magnum opus Robot produced by Ayngaran International and featuring Rajinikanth and Aiswarya Rai has been forced to change their title to Yantram. Shah Rukh Khan's home production Red Chillies has registered the title Robot and nine other titles based on it. The titles were registered with the Association of Motion Pictures and TV Programme Producers (AMPTPP) in Mumbai, by King Khan's company. It seems SRK has a running battle with Shankar and Rajinikanth. Remember Shah Rukh was the original choice of Shankar to do Robotin Hindi, which was supposed to be done by Red Chillies. Later they had a fall out over the script and other issues, which forced Shankar to go for Rajinikanth. SRK has now taken revenge, and has registered nine titles playing around the title-Robot, Mein Hoon Robot, Mera Robot, Pyara Robot, Robot a Hero, Robot Hoon Mein, Robot My Hero, Robotics, Robott. It also clearly indicates that Red Chillies will be making a film titled Robot. Completely taken by surprise, Shankar was forced to change the title fromRobot to Yantram. The official reason given out is that as per Tamilnadu government rule only films with Tamil titles are eligible for entertainment tax exemption. As if they did not know about it, as the rule was there for the last two years!
It's September, and Onam is hardly 10 days away. Onam used to be the biggest festival for Malayalam films from time immemorial. Not any longer, especially this year as Ramzan Noyambu period is clashing with Onam. So no biggies (ie; Mammootty or Mohanlal film) is releasing for Onam. Both their biggies Maya Bazaarand Kurukshetram has been pushed to Perunal day either on October 1 or 2. It means when the big cats are away the mice's will play. This year Thiruonam falls on September 12, Friday. As of now four films are due for Onam on September 11 or 12. They are Suresh Gopi's Bullet and Thavalam and Pritviraj's Thalappavu and Thirakatha. The theatre people say nothing is confirmed and two of the four films due have financial problems. Says a theatre owner with a smile: "We ourselves do not know which film will release, as the situation is still fluid. Anyway we are not bothered as television during Onam will screen better films and theatre attendance will be at a low due to Noyambu season. We will play some Tamil movie or Telugu dubbing."
Richa Pallod, the model turned actress who has acted in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films is making her debut in Malayalam opposite our own Mammootty. She is cast opposite him in a film titled Daddy Cool. Richa had done Shajahan with Vijay and her last film was a small role in Something Something ... Unakkum Enakkum. In Daddy Cool, she plays Annie, wife of Antony Simon played by Mammootty. It is a fun filled entertainer directed by Ashiq Abu.
Sajid, who digs out the deepest secrets of stars with a pinch of humour on his show, is quite content with the response to the programme. "I was very confident that the show would do well. It has substance in it and a lot of entertainment value. You get to enjoy Bollywood stars as people. They talk on TV like never before. And I don't get to know of the success of the show as much from the audience. It is when actors call me up and say we want to be on your show that I know the show is a hit," he said. However, the actor-director Sajid refused to divulge the names of actors who wanted to be seen on Sajid's Superstars. Sajid's recipe to make the show a hit is to have "no script at all". "I don't do much research on the actors except for pre-selecting the video clipping that I want to show and that's all," he concluded. His sister Farah, who directed Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, had choreographed two songs in Heyy Babyy, but Sajid says they will never get together to direct a film. "I don't think Farah and I will make a film together. She is a director in her own right. But, yes, she did two songs for me in Heyy Babyy and I hope she continues doing so," he said.
