A battle is brewing between Pritviraj's producers over whose film will release for Onam 2008. Pritviraj's Thalapavu and Thirakatha, both are slated for release on 'Thiru Onam' day- September 12. Both the films are close to Pritvi's heart and he does not want to play favourites. The Madhupal directed Thalapavu, has been long in the making. In the film Pritvi plays 'Naxal' Joseph, the Che Guvera like character who tried to organize the working class in Wayanad's estates in the 70's. Pritvi who in real life is said to be a left sympathizer, has acted almost free in the film. Lal, Manianpillai Raju, Rohini and Jagathy are others in this film. The film is being distributed by Lal creations. In Thirakkatha Pritvi plays a budding film director of the 80's, Akbar Ahamed, whose films are criticized for 'lifting' storylines from Hollywood. It is on the inside story of the glamorous world of film making and is directed by the actors mentor Ranjit, who gave him his first break in Nandanam. The film also boasts of National Award winning actress Priyamani, playing the role of a glamorous actress. The movie is produced by Varnachithra Subair and Ranjit's Capital Theatres. Now everything depends on whether Lal Creations or Varnachitra gets the better theatres for Onam, as both are determined to release their films on the same day!
'Ilayathalapathy' Vijay is keeping an extremely low profile these days. He did not turn up for the audio launch of his dad S.A Chandrasekhar's Panthayam, even though he was in town. The highlight of Panthayam which stars Nitin Sathya, Sindhu Tolani and Prakash Raj is said to be Vijay's special appearance. Vijay appears as Vijay while Nitin is his crazy fan who comes to his shooting spot as he gets entangled in a problem. In the film within the film Vijay is shown acting in a film titled MGR , "directed" by Perarasu. This scene is said to be one of the major attractions in the film. Plus scenes showing Vijay getting mobbed by his fans has also been shot. However the producer of Panthayam Hitesh Jhabak will not release the stills of Vijay to the press, as he does not want to hype and create huge expectations about the film among Ilayathalapathy fans. The distributors have also been told not to sell the film to theatres saying it is a Vijay film. It is a smart move by Jhabak, considering what happened when the superstar did a similar cameo in Kuselan!
Among the whole bunch of girls who acted in Chak De India alongside SRK, probably the one who managed to draw maximum eyeballs was Sagarika Ghatge. Sagarika, who played the gutsy character of Preeti Sabarwal, also emerged as the highest goal-scorer in the film. Now, Sagarika has managed to strike a goal in her real life too. The actress has been signed by Percept Picture Company for their film Raftaar (working title). The film is directed by noted ad film maker Shamin Desai. Sagarika will be paired opposite serial-kisser Emraan Hashmi and what is interesting, however, is the fact that the role which Sagarika has been signed for was to be originally played by Esha Deol. Sarita Patil, Head of feature films at Percept Picture Company, said: "Yes we have signed Sagarika for Raftaar. She has replaced Esha Deol as we couldn’t agree on the price. After things didn’t work out with Esha, we had a couple of options in mind and our director Shamin had seen Sagarika’s work in Chak De India and felt she would fit the part. Sagarika’s is a full-fledged lead role opposite Emraan Hashmi.” The film also stars Neha Dhupia and Aditya Panscholi in prominent roles. Shooting for the film is currently underway in Kuala Lumpur and the film is expected to release sometime early next year.
